CLE Webinar: Women in Law – Achieving Gender Equality

New York, NY (October 22, 2021) – NAM (National Arbitration and Mediation), one of the nation's leading providers of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services, is pleased to announce that NAM neutrals Hon. Elizabeth Bonina (Ret.) and Jennifer Herscovici, Esq., have been invited by the American Bar Association (ABA) to present Women in Law: Achieving Gender Equality. This complimentary 1-hour CLE program will be live-streamed on Tuesday, December 7th, at 2 p.m. ET and offers 1 CLE credit.

In 2017, the Commercial & Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association prepared the report:  “If Not Now, When?  Achieving Equality for Women in the Courtroom and in ADR.”

On February 6, 2018, the American Bar Association (ABA) House of Delegates unanimously approved a resolution affirming that women attorneys remain considerably underrepresented in courtrooms and in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and outlined steps that can be taken by the judiciary, law firms, clients and ADR providers to address this disparity.

In 2020, the Women's Initiative Task Force of the NYS Bar Association penned a follow up study, “The Time is Now: Achieving Equality for Women in The Courtroom and in ADR.”  This study examined whether the recommendations presented in the original study led to progressive changes for women in litigation and alternative dispute resolution.

Attendees will learn:

• the history of women in law and how female alumnae of the Commercial & Federal Litigation Section of the NYS Bar Association formed this group and uncovered the disparities of women in law;
• changes and improvements made and where women in law are now:
• how we can move the needle with the support of law firms, in-house counsel, outside counsel, the judiciary, ADR providers and neutrals; and
• how to establish procedures and policies to increase the appointment of women in all areas relating to the practice of law.
